Dear Fortunate Rescue: Well, it's been one year today since we adopted Alvin -- Now known as Toby.... I thought you might like to know that Toby has quickly became a member of our family and holds a special place in our hearts. He had big shoe to fill as we had our beloved Jake for 15 years. Toby's adorable... He's come a long way since his puppy/cough scared days.... He can be a handful...but he his absolutely adorable and totally loved Thank you so much for saving this one....he was worth it.... The smiles he's brought back to our lives after Jake are priceless... D.Bogdanich & Family
In March 2010, I adopted a border collie mix.. her name at that time was Walbash. Sorry... that name really had to go.... she is now Brandi. I was a little apprehensive at first about adopting since I never had a dog in my adult life. Adopting her has been one of the best things I've done. She is absolutely great! I look at her and can't imagine that she was on a list to be euthanized!! She is such a happy girl and has a smile on her face all the time. She's not much of a watch dog but she sure does like to play (especially with every other dog that she sees)!! Thank you very much for rescuing her!! Diane
Here is a picture ofRedbud, who we now call "Buddy", with our son Will. They are great friends!! Nikki and Matt Guerrero
Thanks for your call today. It was good to hear a bit more about Lenny's past. He has been doing GREAT, and we are so happy to have him as part of our family. Lenny is such a fun and energetic dog... he follows us everywhere around the house and loves spending time with us. He is a sweetie and loves to cuddle with us in the evening when he starts to get sleepy. We are so happy to have him and look forward to many happy years together! I've attached some pictures of him from his first day home. Thank you again for everything!- Carolyn and Jeremy Strobel
Just wanted to Update you on Odie...now Yogi....He is a sweet angel sent from heaven! He and our lab/collie mix are the best of friends! They chase each other and play all day long! Yogi hit the jackpot...I want his life! I have attached some pictures of the baby.Nancy Ruckoldt
Just wanted to send some new photos your way of "Cinder" formerly "Lydia".. She was at Fortunate Labs back in the Fall of '06 . We adopted her a few days after she arrived at your wonderful place! I want to tell you all again how wonderful you all are and what an awesome job you all do everyday for the furry kids. We hope to adopted again soon from Fortunate Labs! Jaime (Cinder's Mom)
Hi, Brutus is doing great now. He is still on an antibiotic, but should be done in a couple of weeks. He loves his new life! He has lots of energy, loves car rides, likes "talking" with our donkey, fetching in the lake, swimming, playing catch, chasing butterflies, and hanging out on our bed. I wanted to thank you again for all your help. I think it is so great what you and Fortunate Pooches and Lab Rescue are doing. Thank you for our new addition to the family! Brooke & Fritz p.s. I (Brooke) am going to look into trying to create a fundraiser at the UW-Whitewater college campus - I've done fundraisers on campus before, so it's pretty easy. I was going to ask for monetary donations, as well as the items you have listed on the website. I would like to help you guys out as much as possible!
Hi,I just wanted to send a quick update on Bozzie.. we kept his name and added a nickname. Thanks again.. you do such great work and it truly impacts families as much as the dogs.. We are starting training classes soon and I am looking forward to many years with this wonderful guy.. Take care,Kirsten
Dear FPALR, My boyfriend Andrew and I rescued our Lab/Dalmatian,Cooper, on July 5, 2009. He brings us such happiness and joy and we just wanted to thank you ALL for what you do on a daily basis. The kind efforts you make changes the lives of dogs and their 'people' forever. We love our Cooper so much! Attached is a picture of him the day we brought him home. Again, thank you for all that you do and we plan on coming up to visit again for some volunteer work. Love,Sarah, Andrew & Cooper!
Just wanted to send you some pictures of Sadie( AKA Dixie) I adopted her last may and she has been such a great addition to our family. Her and our ridge back mix Bowzer are best friends, everyone laughs when we walk them because since she is so short she fits underneath him when they walk. Thanks again!!!
Marissa Maffesoli
In the one week we've had him - Kobe - he's learned to sit, lay down, heel, wait and sit before going outside or coming inside and today we taught him to give us a "high five." He's terrific! Thank you again for allowing us to adopt him. Angie Gratzl & Paul Jensen
We adopted Bailey on March 29th. We absolutley adore her. She is an excellent addition to our family. Thank you to all of you who work so hard to find homes for all of these wonderful dogs! The Dedina Family
We wanted to send you a "Happy Tails" update for Brooke. Some people say rescue dogs a "Diamonds in the rough", but not Brooke - she has been a "diamond" from the beginning. Everyone who meets her makes the same two comments: A) What a beautiful dog B) Who wouldn't want her -she is so calm, gentle and well-behaved!!! She loves to play with my children and get lots of snuggles as you can see from the pictures. In short she is a perfect fit and we love her to bits! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to helping her, and others like her Sincerely, Kelly Black/Pattern Tamers

This is "Barkley Glimmer Murphy" dressed up at "Bat Dog" for Halloween 2009! She is our precious pet we adopted from FPALR in February 2009. When we visited FPALR, we were so taken by the excellent, loving care that each of these dogs were receiving and wanted to take more than 1 home! Roshini at FPALR has the good sense that Barkley (then "Blossom") would be the perfect fit for us in that we were seeking a family dog that was a pretty lovable and affectionate Lab. In fact, all of the dogs there were like that so it was difficult. Barkley sort of chose us! She is the most friendly dog I have ever known and has been amazing with our kids and their friends alike. The experiences with FPALR since (fundraisers, follow ups) have been wonderful - they really care about how these animals are doing in their new environments and how the new families are all adjusting to eachother. Please support FPALR in any way that you can because this organization is truely dedicated to the preservation and care of these blessed creatures! Sincerely, The Murphy Family, Wilmette, IL
We adopted Sissy, now Mia about 3 weeks ago. We wanted a companion for our existing female lab named Chloe. Chloe was a bit shy since she was part of a rescue and was never socialized when she was young. Ever since Mia came into the house Chloe has been like a different dog. She has really come out of her shell and is happier than she has ever been. The 2 girls are inseparable. They play together constantly. Sleep together, and wag their tails constantly. Mia is housebroken and can be left in the house during the day when we go to work and doesn't touch a thing. Not bad for a 9 month old lab! We are very proud of both our girls and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do and rescuing this wonderful girl. I have attached a few pictures. Thanks again, Mike, Aggie, and the girls

We adopted "Bolt " from you in June of this year, and just wanted to let you know he is doing very well and is the perfect pet. His new name is Lincoln, and he is proving to be quite the statesman. We bought him home on a Sunday and on Monday we had to leave him alone uncrated...the one way in which he won't obey is by refusing to go in the crate. I worried all day, but when I got home everything was perfect, he hadn't touched anything but his food and his toys. After about a week of this the crate went away for good. Lincoln has never pottied in the house, hes leash trained,he has learned quite a few commands, he's affectionate and playful, and incredibly loves other dogs, cats and kids...as I said PERFECT.
We want to thank you all so much for what you do, we can't imagine Lincoln ever having been without a loving home. A special thank you to the former SeaBee that works or volunteers there ( sorry we didn't get your name) . We weren't quite sure which dog would be right and my husband mentioned we'd like one a little less energetic. The SeaBee said , "well then, bring out BOLT ! The most he'll do is fight for the couch" You couldn't of been more right. Thanks so much

Hello to everyone at FPLR! It?s been a year this week that I found my forever home and boy is it great. You know that show, It?s a Wonderful Life? Well, I?m living it! I have an 8 year old human sister who I love to snuggle with. I have lots and lots of visitors both human and canine and I get to go on a lot of field trips. See my mom also volunteers for Lab Rescue and she calls me her ambassador, what ever that is. All I know is that when I get to have foster brothers and sisters they are so much fun to play with but they don?t stay long and then I get sad, but then another one comes to stay for a while. I get to go to other people?s houses and meet their dogs and show them how great I am because I too am a rescue dog! Everyone who meets me loves me?really. My mom says that if she had a nickel for every time someone said they would love a dog just like me, she would be rich!
Ooooh, I also get to go to doggie daycare once a week, and boy is it fun! When I?m at home, I love to sleep on my mom?s bed and play with all my neighborhood friends. Yep, thanks to everyone at FPLR for rescuing me because I have the best life now.
My mom asked me to send you this photo of me on Halloween. I didn?t mind dressing up at all, because I?m a really easy going guy. Well, I?m off to work again, showing how great rescue dogs can be. I?ll be sure to keep in touch and come by for a visit at one of your adoption events, because that?s where my mom met me and fell in love!
Sincerely,
Angus C.

Hi Ileana,
Max (Hoss) is doing much better and his cough is almost completely gone. We haven't had a change to take him to get neutered yet, but will schedule that within the next 1-2 weeks. My wife and kids (4 & 3 yrs) really love Max and he loves us too. He is just so happy to go on long walks and has a dog friend next door to play with. . I've attached a few photos of Max, as well.
Thank you, Frank
Hello FPALR,
I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful puppy we adopted on Sept. 13th from the Petsmart in Vernon Hills. She is a delight with a whole lotta crazy mixed in. We named her Willow (one of Hersheys Dozen)and she loves her new life with us. She runs and jumps, plays with and annoys her big brother Riley, but secretly he doesn't mind, he's glad he is not alone anymore. She is trying real hard to learn the rules and doing a good job of using the "outdoors" bathroom. She enjoys walks around the block and taking naps on her favorite blanket. I hope her littermates all find good and loving homes and may God bless you and your organization. Thank you so much for taking care of her and preparing her for life in a forever home.
Love Adam, Alaina, Willow and Riley Brock
Ileana,
Red is doing really well. He is as good of a dog as I could have ever hoped for. We take two walks every day and we actually went to the dog park tonight (I had to work late today and that was his reward for being a good boy). Every person that meets him whether family, on the bike path, or at the dog park just love him. He is really well behaved in most situations, but will definitely go for a sprint if not kept in a fenced in area/leash. I have attached a few pictures below. He really likes to go for rides in the car also. I will tell him that you said hello.

Hello everyone at FPLR- Sampson is doing great! He started obedience school 2 weeks ago and is learning a lot. He also started going to daycare to play 1-2 days a week. I think he misses playing with all of his friends at the rescue, but daycare is a good second option. He gained 5lbs and is looks very handsome. Here are some pictures of him playing in the backyard. He absolutely LOVES playing fetch, we do this all day long! Have a great day! -Lyndsey Powell

Hello . . .
I was rescued from Pooches on March 31, 2008. It has been AWESOME!!! My new mommy and daddy are wonderful. So much so, I snuggle with them every night in bed. They take me on long walks several times a day and my auntie even made me a HUGE bed with Snoopy on it....Since they have been so good to me, I have decided to try and become a good citizen dog in the spring or summer time. Thanks to my great parents and Petsmart trainer I am well on my way. Thank you Fortunate and Pooches for rescuing me and letting me go to this great family!!!!
Love,
Cleo
