Dogs typically are in foster homes for 2-3 weeks, although if a dog has special needs or health challenges or is a senior, fostering can be a longer commitment. Once your foster application is approved, we will contact you as we have dogs coming into the rescue in need of a foster. When you commit to foster, our expectation is that you will commit to caring for the dog until he or she finds a forever home.
We have compiled a Foster FAQ that has more specifics about what it means to foster a dog for FPALR. Please email email@example.com to request a copy of that factsheet if you'd like more information before filling out our application.
We require our foster families to sign a foster agreement before taking in their dog. We are happy to email this form to you before pickup of the dog for your review.
Fostering is very rewarding. We have had families foster a dog or two for us, and we appreciate that short-term help. FPALR also has had many families who have taken in many foster dogs over the years, and those repeat fosters are a big reason that we have been able to save more dogs in recent years than ever before. We are a foster-based rescue, meaning that we have no facility. All of our dogs come into the rescue and are cared for in loving foster homes as a waystation to a forever family. We'd love you to join our foster roster!
