Make A Difference ... Adopt A Pet ... Save A Life!
Can up help us help them ? Every week young pups as well as Adult dogs are being euthanized due to space at the High Kill Shelters. This week alone there were requests for us to take in over 20 pups that were between the ages of 4-8 weeks old. We are limited at the shelter and our current foster homes are full. Could you possibly help us out by fostering some pups for a few weeks ? We provide all food, medical and crate. Contact info@fortunatelabrescue.org or foster@fortunatelabrescue.org
PEYTON, HOPE, LILY, CALLIE, PONGO AND MEADOW ALL HAVE ADOPTIONS PENDING THIS PAST WEEK ALLOWING FPALR TO SAVE MORE DOGS. THE STAFF AND THE DOGS THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF THEIR HEARTS
Molly was rescued from the Waukegan Animal Contol . This poor gal came to them in such a state that as you can tell by the pictures she was shearly nothing but skin pulled over bones. Yet in her eyes they saw that she was so sweet and just thankful to have a place to rest her head. Imagine their surprise last Sunday am when they went to take care of the dogs, they found Molly had given birth to 3 pups. Because FPALR is limited to the amount of dogs that we can house at the shelter itself, an SOS was put out for a foster home for this gal. Chris once again thank you for stepping up and giving Molly a place to raise her babies.  These cuties are only 1 week old, the two chocolate ones are females, Char and Nettie, white with brown a boy, Mike. Molly is in need of some medical attention to try and get her thru this. If you could find it in your heart to donate to her care, please even if only a dollar, she would be so appreciative. No animal should be in this condition to begin with yet alone while being pregnant. There are many more dogs that we could rescue if we had more foster homes. Please help us help them.

FPALR was devasted to learn that one of the HIGH KILL SHELTERS we rescue dogs from had to euthanize 65 dogs in the last few weeks due not having enough shelters offering to take dogs in. Every shelter is filled to its capacity with the economy the way it is, and the animals are suffering as well. There for in order to try and save more, we wll be having a July Special for the rest of the month .

ADULT DOGS will be $150.00

SPECIAL PRICING  on long time ladies Roxy, Venus, Abby and Lillian at 125.00 .

PUPS are $250.00 .

By adopting a
Best Friend do you realize you will be giving one a great home and saving another one at the same time. We ask that you fill out the application before coming to the shelter so we can spend more time with you and the "one " you are taking home.

This special pricing is effective July 12th 2010 thru July 31st 2010 only...No price adjustments will be made for previous adoptions

SPECIAL LADIES NEED SPECIAL HOMES SPECIAL PRICING FOR JULY ONLY

Can you help one of them. None of the issues they have are their faults, it is thru prior owners whom never socialized these dogs perhaps, or allowed them to be the "control" factor in their homes or just totally abused neglected and or ignored them. BUT they can be dealt with and worked thru. They can be your best friend and well behaved if YOU give them the chance. Many puppy mill dogs have found their forever homes, abused dogs are now living a great life that were saved by FPALR. Please take a moment and read the stories below and let us know if you might be the one they have been waiting for.

$125.00 FOR ABBY, ROXY, VENUS AND OR LILLIAN EACH

ABBY

I'm Abby and I am waiting for you. I came to FPALR many monthes ago and while others have come and gone I remain. Is it because I don't have enough white on my body ? or because I am just  to plain looking for someone ? or is it because I need to be an only dog ? Not my fault and I am sorry that my former  owners didn't take care of me. I didn't ask to be born or to be owned by someone that didn't let me be around other dogs. They also didn't take the time to get me Heartworm Preventative so I came to FPALR  Heartworm positive. But I am healthy now and looking  for that special person to love me for who I am , just Abby who loves to play, loves to be in her crate but really would love someome to call her own and hug her every night

Venus. ,, another one of the long time residents here and she doesn't know why. Her heart has been broken each time she sees one of her boyfriends leave.  Since she is alpha female she can't be with another female but what is wrong with having a permanent brother ?  Other members of the Black Dog Brigade have been adopted and yet Venus remains. She is loved by all the volunteers and it breaks their heart to see her lose another friend to a family while she has waited for so long for someone to walk thru the door and say "we came for Venus"
Lillian arrived at FPALR as a severely abused Lab gal whose collar was embedded within her neck, full of irratation from being flea infested. Today we are thrilled to say she is so over her years of abuse and loving the world. Making up for lost time this gal is so excited to know what love is and the great volunteers make sure she knows how great life can be

Roxy is proud of herself no matter what others think. She is a loves her walks but needs a strong hand at the end of that leash. She does love kids but should be around those that are of the teenage years since in her playful ways she will knock down the smaller ones, and not intentionally. Other dogs that are not alpha will be fine with her as she likes to make sure she is in charge and there is nothing wrong with that. Don't we all like to be in "charge". She is housebroken, some obedience and crate trained gal here
Paco wonders if his name was Snoopy would he have been adopted already ? He dosen't mind other dogs at all, he just does his own thing. But he is a bit embarrassed about his weight, but maybe if he had someone that loved him to take him on their walks with them, he might be able to lose those extra pounds. He also might come out of his " couch potato " mood if there was just that one person who said " you are just what I have been looking for"
Who let all the dogs out at once ?

Foster home needed for an emaciated Female Lab gal that was recently saved by a great gal from being euthanized. She was in horrible condition but beneath the surface Susan saw what once was. Well we need a foster home for this gal whom also gave birth to 3 pups this past weekend. We don't have room for her at the shelter as we are limited to the amount of dogs we can have, plus she would be much better off in a home.! e-mail us at info@fortunatelabrescue.org or call 773 318 2239

SOPHIE IS THIS MONTH'S SUCCESS STORY

Hello FPALR!

My story is a little different then some posted on your website. My new name is Sophie (AKA Fortunate - adoped April 2009) and I now live with my mommy June and Daddy Lester.

My mom said that it was about a year ago that I was adopted by my 1st mommy and her family I was so scared about coming home and I wasn't sure if they were all going to like me. They always called me by my name now: Sophie. They would take me out on walks and play catch with me in the backyard whenever the sun came out. But when I got sick, mommy's family brought me treats and all these new toys. They kept kissing me and hugging me and that's when I really knew that everyone really liked me, maybe even loved me!!

But then my older brother Aaron got really sick and I had to stay with my Auntie June. I didn't understand what was going on, or what happened to my brother, but Auntie June and her boyfriend took good care of me. They cuddled with me while they watched a movie. And they even bought me a new toy!!! (I love this new toy thing) But then my mommy came to their house crying. I left with her but she was so upset I thought I did something wrong. A couple of sunrises later, and I was back at my Auntie June's house. She kept saying things like she was my new mommy, and that my older brother could come visit me sometimes in my new home.

Ever since then, life just could not get any better!!!! Mommy June and Daddy Lester took me to the park even when it was cold with all the white stuff on the ground. It was so much fun! I made a lot of new friends. My mommy even bought me a new big bed that I jump on when I'm really playful. They got me jackets for every season so that I don't get sick; personally I don't think I need a vest - but my mommy says I do. I have lots of new friends in mommy and daddy's neighborhood. They even take me places with them as much as possible - I finally enjoy car rides (especially when the windows are rolled all the way down!). Mommys sister and brother always give me treats and my grandma and grandpa are always playing with me. Daddy's home is a little quieter, but my grandma and grandpa over there can't stop petting me!

Mommy had her friend, my Auntie Kate, go to FPALR to look at the doggies there. Auntie Kate came home with my now best friends, Rigby (AKA Ronaldo). We like to chase each other around the yard and wrestle as often as can. Sometimes my mommy has to tell me to calm down and be a good girl because I take Rigby's toys - but that's what best friends are for, right?!?!

Mommy is always making me sit and stay when she's going to give me something. Sometimes she like to shake my paws or have everyone else shake my paws. I don't like to roll over very much, but it makes mommy and daddy smile a lot, so I do it. But they really get excited when I lay on my side when they make these loud gun noises at me. They point their finger at me and make the noises and I lay on my side (one time I even caught mommy jumping up and down smiling).

This year mommy and daddy threw me a big birthday party! I got a cake and they made me ramps and tunnels to play in with all the friends that came over. I GOT A LOT OF PRESENTS!!!! =) My mommy and daddy keep saying that I still have new toys and treats somewhere in our home; I'm still sniffing for them. They still take me to the park, and they still let me say hi to all of my friends in our neighborhood.

Thank you FPALR for rescuing me so that my mommies and my daddy found me. I couldn't be any happier, and my mommy made me attach some pictures to prove it. She said that she still "needs to upload" my birthday pictures, and then we'll send them to you guys.

Love,

Sophie

SPONSOR A DOG. DONATE, DONATE MONTHLY-->

We are always in need of donations, volunteers, and sponsors. Go to Donate/Sponsor to sponsor a dog. Our vet bills are very high and we have no sponsors or help from any foundations such as the large pet store foundations or charities! Grants are usually not approved for no-kill rescues or shelters; only the animal control facilities, and the kill shelters/humane societies! Please research to whom you donate!

We are in need of the following items for our new semi-cageless shelter:
new wire crates, doggy beds, doggy treats, and stainless steel rubbish containers.

Sponsor a crate, a dog, or a room and make a difference today!
Four rooms are available. Each room will be dedicated to the sponsor family or business and their name will be permanently placed on each room. Crate donations range from $100 - $500.

We have been rated as one of the best animal shelters in the northern suburbs by our
veterinary clinic and staff, as well as our clients and visitors! Come visit our facility for an organized
scheduled tour, to see the before and after condition of our saved dogs! When they get adopted, they do not
want to leave our excellent care! However, we need to part with them as millions of others need our HELP! We are NO KILL and we ONLY work with Animal Control Facilities.
Heartworm Positive Dogs - this year alone we have treated 21 HW positive dogs! Please have your dog on the preventative year round!
DONATE for our special case dogs!

ADOPTION FEES: Puppies - $290 up to 7 months, Adults - $250 up to 7 years, Seniors - $100 over 7 years, Adult Black Dog Brigade $175.00
